DObro Cone Replacement

Postby heckergt » Sun Jun 04, 2006 7:52 pm

I have a Gibson Dobro DWF60 spider bridge and I need to replace the cone. Any suggestions on where to get a new one? There are different ones I found on the internet but I dont know who or what to go with. I want to get a good one. It has a 10 1/2 inch resonator. Ive seen ones made out of "pre war material" and hand spun material and so on. I just want to get one that works good and sounds good.

The most popular ones for spiders are from Quarterman.

One place I can recommend to buy them: http://janetdavismusic.com/ Look for "Dobro Parts."

There's a Quarterman Cone that is made like the original Dobro cones.

I can't remember the Model # but, it is the one that uses the "longer" screw.
It may be the QC-2

You'll know it when you see it.

I've replaced a bunch of stock cones with that model and I love it.

Try Resophonic Outfitters for the Quarterman cone.

Make sure they have it in stock before you order it.

Thanks for the info. What about the National cones? I talked to the Tech at National and he said it will fit. He said if it doesnt fit then I could send it back. They were very helpful and kind. Does anyone have any input on National cones?

Personally I don't like the sound of National spider cones (or National spider bridge guitars for that matter). Most dobro players agree that Quartermans are the best spider cones.
Resophonic Outfitters don't sell them any more, by the way, since they started selling their own brand.
