Probably true. I related a story a while ago here about how he wouldn't play one night in Toronto in '72. They wouldn't let him have a bottle onstage at the bar (the liquor laws in Ontario at the time were somewhat to the right of Yemen) and he "downed tools". I had most of a bottle of CC at home and went and got it for him, returning a big smile to his face. HDT live and lubricated was an experience you would not forget easily.
