Not quite blues...close enough?

Postby Jakeblues » Tue Jun 25, 2013 8:38 pm

I've been out of work following surgery in early May, so I've had plenty of time to play and record. I woke up one night with this tune playing and immediately fell in love with it. "Worry walks beside me" by Michael Kiwanuka (who I had never heard of previously, not that it means much.) I recorded two versions, one fretted, one slide. Here's the slide version: https://soundcloud.com/mean_old_fireman/worry-walks-beside-me-slide

Manificent, simply manificent soaring notes and runs. I sure do admire your talent MOF. Peace :D

Very nice Jakeblues! In one way or another this is indeed something Pink Floyd-ish, which is already in the chord progression I think.

Interesting that several people have made the Pink Floyd comparison, since they were never someone I listen to (at least consciously). I think the chord progression is similar to Harlem Nocturne, but I'd have to give a closer listen. Thanks!

I'm not very familiar with Floyd either but it sounds to me like Fireman has been shut away with Jeff Beck for a while. :D Peace

Very nice. I see the Floyd ref. It's got that ethereal sound.

Either's fine. (A "Jake" is a fireman in New England, anyways.)

Thanks, buddy. Your playing is pretty awesome, fire or no fire. You have defined a sound with which you are comfortable and really feel those runs from the heart. :D Peace.

Jake, just had a listen and it took me back to a dream that sneeks up on me periodically (just a touch of PTSD). Anyway I think it is most excellent.

I guess I've been it a bit of a dark place lately and this track was an expression of that. Hopefully this wasn't a trigger for you. (I don't have PTSD, but have several friends that do.) Glad you liked the track. Thanks to everyone for the kind comments.
