National Lap Steel

Postby neogardguitar » Mon Feb 27, 2012 3:37 pm

Hello

I have a National Lap Steel that belongs to my next door neighbour. She's thinking of selling it, but we don't know much about it.

Wondered if anyone could tell me anything about it or point me in a direction to find out.

I appreciate it.

Here's some pictures. She has the guitar, a case that looks original and a National amp that goes with it.

looks just like rory gallagher's 1951 national dynamic lap steel, here:

and here:

no idea what they go for though.

That's a Dynamic, I think. Both that and the amp look to be in exceptionally fine condition. The higher-end National lap steels seem to go for about $500, higher retail. The amps sell at $300-600 generally. Both are highly desirable. The set would likely market out at $800-1,000.

This is very accurate.

Its all according to how quick she wants/needs to move it.

An $800 "Buy it now" on Ebay wouldn't last 24 hours and if she held out for top dollar and found the right collector, that kind of condition might get her into $1200 territory.
