Lace Slimline humbucker pickup on resonator

Seems the national version of the lace is not available any more. However I ordered a lace slimline, which is the same 5mm thick. However, even with the sticky tape off, at the end of the fretboard, where they are usually installed, the strings hit when playing up around the 7th fret. I thought it was the neck angle of the baritone reso NRP I have. I finished and installed a new neck, had to carve the heel and though the neck angle might be off.

However I tried it on the NRP and the Resorocket and the same thing. With the double sided tape, the thing is even higher. I never lowered the action, it's the stock national action.

Any ideas?

So shave the fret board down until it fits.

I had an Artec humbucker made for archtop and resonator guitars. It fit on neither. It was way too thick and I had the same problems you're having.

I fail to see how shaving the fretboard would remedy it...

Welcome back to the forum. I haven't seen you here in a long time.

Yeah, the fretboard has nothing to do with it. It is supposed to sit flush against the fretboard.

Like in this thread.
Should have bought this one.

Now imagine, designing a pickup for a purpose, it is fu**ing useless and they still sell the thing? Unreal. My action is not low, nor high. It's the stock National action.

What a useless piece of sh|t

That's strange. As coincidence would have it I just fitted one to my Goldtone round neck, reso last weekend. It's slimmer than the end of the fretboard and is way under the strings themselves

Looks like a different pickup to mine Knuckle. I'm at work at the moment so it's just a perception. I will check it when I get home tonight and let you know.

James! Glad to see you post after all this time...

My best advice would be to move the pickup closer to the bridge. The clearance only gets better in that direction. But from your picture I'm not sure even that will help... need more neck angle or neck height to make that sort of pickup work.

That's pretty much how that mini bucker I have looked on my resonator too. It fit under the strings, but as soon as I hit the strings they would buzz out from touching the pickup.

What models of resonator are you trying it on?

Hey Bub,
It looks like you just need about 1/8" to 1/4" more room or so.
If you're committed to mounting that pickup, no matter what:
You can carefully cut and gouge by hand, a pocket out of the top with a razor knife and sharp wood chisel.
It looks like you got a pickguard there on one guitar, you can cut a hole through that, but it's a tough material so you'll need a coping saw and drill.
Or just send the pickup back and forget it.

I looked at mine last night and it is definitely thinner than yours (the pickup that is!)
Mine doesn't appear to have much thickness under the actual chromium plated bit.
In your picture there seemed to be a third more thickness under this, if that makes sense?

The Lace slimline is different from the National slimline and the Flatbucker. First, it's made by Lace, which no longer makes the National, and the Flatbucker in the photos above is handmade in Germany and fairly expensive due to the Euro/Dollar right now.

I'd opt for the new National Slimline. That's a new neck on yours though isn't it Kevin? Is the angle correct? Although that pickup you have on it looks pretty fat....
