Speaking Of Slides

I'm making a run of slides from 12 gauge shotgun barrels. If I knew how to post pics here I would, alas I'm clue deficient. These slides are made using only hand tools and due to the bore diameter they typically fit a US ring size 8, which limits them to use on the little finger only, that is unless you've got very small fingers. I'll work with you and get the length you want, so If anyone is interested, contact me at jr45acp@bellsouth.net for pics and additional details. I'm figuring pricing at $25 per slide shipped, US only. Thanks.

I'm a ring finger slider, so I guess I better go get my 12 gauge and see if my finger fits in the barrel. I know, I know, that's not very good gun safety. What kind of gun are they coming from?

jeffl, I'm retired Federal Law Enforcement. No worries in that regard. I demilled the barrels so the can't ever be used on a shotgun again.

Which agency did you used to work for? I always wanted to be an FBI agent growing up. That didn't quite happen.

Hmmm... my old shotgun has a swollen barrel that'll need replacing eventually... perhaps I have found a use for the barrel after that 8)

Ring size 8 is 18mm, which is just under 3/4" Great size for the pinky.

There is a traveling bluesman who comes down here in the winter for a few month. Lives in a camper and busks at local festivals, farmers markets, etc. I often track him down so I can watch him play and try to learn things from him. He uses a self-made shotgun barrel slide that still has the sight bead on it. It's all corroded and pitted and he gets a fantastic tone from it! Check him out: http://vimeo.com/31061942

Hmmm. I'm a ring finger guy. What do you have in 10 gauge? :)

Zhyla, get your ring finger measured and either email, pm, etc the size and let me see what I can come up with.

Lefty, let's just say the Department of Justice and leave it there, please.

I held my ring up to my 12ga muzzle. Looks slightly tighter. Though it's an I.C. bore, maybe it's a little wider towards the breach end? In any case, I've got a trashed Mossberg barrel in the garage already if I ever get the hankering. I'm all set for slides.

Interesting idea. A Damascus Steel barrel would make a wild looking slide (not so sure how it'd sound though).

I make glass slides from wine & liquor bottles. I have found that glass has the best tone. Brass is a close second. Gun metal? That's a new one on me. Willing to try it if someone is going to make one, I'd be willing to trade for one of my slides. If you make one for me can you make it only one inch long. Thanks.

Just got my slide, very nice! I haven't had a chance to try it on the tricone, but has a nice weight and feel to it.

My fingers are a little on the slender side, so there's a little extra room on my pinky. It could work on my ring finger (if I could play with it on my ring finger!)

Looks cool and has a nice feel and tone.

Thanks!
