Gretsch Corsair/Synchromatic

I'm seriously looking at buy or trading for a Gretsch Corsair/Synchromatic that looks a lot like this here:

The guitar I'm looking at does not have a cutaway, and has block inlays.

My question is this. Outfitted with some sort of floating pickup, or even neck P-90, would this guitar do the "40s blues/Little Walter/Myers" thing?

What pickup would you put in or on this guitar for old school 40s blues? By the way, I would play it through a 59 tweed Deluxe.

Any downside to this?

Thanks.

Actually, this is a better example, minus the pickup.
