My latest build

Postby zhyla » Mon Feb 14, 2011 10:12 pm

Things are painfully dead here so figured I'd post a teaser from the instrument I'm currently building for my uncle. I wanted to wait until it was at least all strung up but duty calls.

I think you can probably figure out where I'm going with this but I'll shut up now. It's a teaser, right?

Well, you put 4 bass on the top, and 6 guitar on the bottom. One head stock, but there's room enough between for a hand, so 2 necks.
A Bass and guitar double neck with a single headstock and single body.
Great for ramming into the bellies of drunken stage crashers too!

I was wondering 'bout that so I tried a glass slide on my bass and, it don't work. No sustain at all, like using a rubber slide. It might take a slide made from a solid 3 lb copper bar, to get anything out of a bass string. :wha:

I had some issues with the strings I had bought, waiting for the right set to show up.

I'm an ignorant harper, so I figured 12 string lap steel.

I don't have a clue about what it is--but you continue to inspire me, Zhyla. My first lap steel build is just awaiting some parts now, but I'm kind of re-learning to play it in the meantime (it has been many years since I played lap) and having a great time--I'll be ready to show it off in a few days--but it's just a mere six string.

You were right about the addictive nature of this building stuff--I'm already planning the next two!

Yeah, I'm not even close to finished with this one and I've already got an acoustic instrument drawn up and lumber acquired.
