So I got this Gas Can Guitar, made by Simon Crump in Sunny England. It's a curious piece, but a nice one. The action needs a little raising, but everything else about it is pretty spot on. Here's a vid, "Sweet Shop" I did today, bottleneck.

I think I now have a bad case of GAS (sorry, temptation took control of me and I fell). A few years ago back in Mississisippi I ran into a guy named 'Super Chickun' Johnson or something like that who was making gas can guitars. The things played and sounded great. They were also cool looking as all get out.

Neal, does it sound that nice & bright live? That's great, and well played too! That thing's cooler than a beer tap in a kitchen sink. Love the sound. I'd be tempted to fill it up to the first leak with wine or sumpin'. :D

Awwww, thanks guys. This thing is pretty cool, easy to play, intonates well. A little low in the action, but that gives the dirty sound that I am known to rail AGAINST!! Doh!

The acoustic sound is weak, there is a neck stick through the body, and the bridge sits on that, so the can itself is not "loaded", just the stick. I'd be tempted to fill it also, but.... there's the screw holes for the strap in the can, the controls, the jack.... it would leak. It DOES still smell a bit of the old petrol though. Hope theirs no spark when plugging in.....

That looks like a blast. Makes me want to finish that cigar box guitar I started...some time ago.

Great playing, too. Reminds me of Leo Kottke a bit.

Very cool Neil. Funny thing is, by itself the thing looks HUGE, but seeing you playing it puts the scale and something much more manageable. You need to take that to an open mic, people will be blown away!

Wow! That was so cool! How do you like that Mustang I amp? I've been considering it for when I go away to university. For $99 it doesn't seem like they can be beat.

Thanks,
Lenny, it does look big in pics, but against a guitar, it's pretty small. A little on the fat side holding it though.

Lefty, it's a nice amp. USB, sound tailoring, re-doing effects, all the things I know absolutely nothing about!

I like it Neal. Would be great for busking. Careful you don't ignite any residual vapours!!
