Nothin' to do with blues? The name says it all. You might try e-mail or Personal Message, but if those don't work for you, put it here, not in the blues forums above. Thanks!

Crashed and busted my clavicle…

Postby Buffalo_Bill » Wed Mar 16, 2011 12:14 pm

Yes, Monday afternoon decided it was warm enough for a short motorcycle ride. Pulled out too hard on my sportbike, the rear tire broke loose for split sec then grabbed, the rear end jumped left way too far, did a jr high side and I got slammed down hard on my right side! Busted clavicle and sore femur joint. One stupid second.
Wham bam crash, it all happened that fast. I got some help from a couple of real hero's who stopped and helped me home, I was just a couple hundred ft from my house.
Bummer…I'm stuck at home now, with my right arm in a sling, can't pick or pluck. :(
Have a drum kit, I'm gonna play along with some Blues recordings today, one handed but I can keep a beat.

So sorry to hear that! I have quite the history of breaking wrists and hands, but haven't done it since I started playing guitar. One of my biggest fears is not being able to play guitar. I hope you get back into it as soon as you can. Even if you can't fret, you can try and do some lap playing!

Been there, bought several t shirts. Why don't we have a bike get together and compare scars? And X rays? Ricochet is part machine, I have an iron bar (titanium, but it sounds better) in my leg.

I'd love to be able to race and know I'd walk away unhurt after every meeting, but I don't. But I can't give it up. Guitar in front of the Albert Hall wouldn't give me that kick, so I do it.

But get well in your own time, and let the notes in your head stew for a bit. You'll be surprised at what comes out after a good long rest. Nearly said break, sorry.

Well, with my right arm in a sling I can't reach over to play any of my guitars, they're all hollow and semi-hollow bodied.
So I bought an Epiphone SG G-400 on bay for $240 with shippin'. Not so bad price, and because it's got a slim waist and small, thin body I'll be able to reach over to pluck and strum it. 8)
Good excuse for another guitar, plus I can resell it later.

Thinking this through, if you're right handed and can't use your right arm, you have the perfect oppirtunity to perfect your hammer ons. And fretted pull offs.

What Maxx said and you could play with the guitar on your lap. I've seen it done.

We all know you can do it, but he's got a floppy shoulder. Admittedly, not for long, but he's floppy.

Bill, have you considered sitting down with the guitar upright on your thigh and playing it like a midget double bass?

Well you know playing in odd positions like that detracts from my regular methods. Plus, I want to keep my arm and shoulder in one position for healing.
I didn't think of that though, I'll have a try. Might even return the SG, :D NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

Come on Maxx can't you let me have any fun? 8)

I probably wouldn't relearn to play for a, hopefully, short term situation.

That's a real downer. Many years ago during a rodeo in Mexia, Tx the bull rode me. Result: Broken neck, dislocated shoulder, broken clavicle, every rib on the right side, front and back. Hope you get on the mend soon.
