Results of the request for support

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Jan-19-06 AT 11:12 AM (EST)]It's been one week since I put an announcement at the top of the forums requesting help with the expenses necessary to keep Big Road Blues on line. Here are the first weeks results:

Donations: Four people have made donations using the button at the top of the page.

Purchases: Three people have made purchases at Coast to Coast Music that could be tracked directly to this web site.

This represents 1% of the members who have been active in the past year.

All of the donations and a portion of each purchase have been set aside to put towards the expenses here.

I just want to say a big "Thank You" to those who have shown their support!

If you would like to show your support for this web site as well, you may either send a donation in any amount you choose by clicking the button at the top of the page, or by clicking through to Coast to Coast Music using the link at the top of the page and making a purchase.

Regards,
PappyJ

Storing the referral in the session variables?

is there any way to let you know that an order is coming from a BRB member? (I haven't placed an order yet, I'm trying to decide how many strings I can afford right now, as it's definitely cheaper to order from you (though not by much if I only order a little- alors, 24-36 packs of strings)).

ramble ramble ramble
I got ramblin' on my mind.

You're unlikely to get many orders from this side of the Atlantic: for consumables (strings etc) the cost of shipping usually far exceeds the cost of the item. For larger items, such as instruments, such costs become risible, even if one were to risk shipping them over such a distance. Then there are import duties...

As far as I'm concerned, CTC Music only exists as a link at the top of a BRB page.

Pappy,
I don't have a credit card or anything like that, so I asked Mousey to bung a few quid your way on my behalf.
You might find that other donations are similarly inflated and that the number of people donating is actually greater than the number of referrals you see in your stats.
BF's right about CTCMusic, it's just not viable from this side of the pond.

The link at the top of the page is an "affiliate" link, if you click it and then place an order within 60 days we will know that it came from here. You could also put "Big Road Blues order" in the special instructions when ordering, but the link above is easier for us to track since it's automatic.

I understand that the feight is high overseas, but there is no freight on donations ;)

IMO, the responses Pappy has received are prob'ly paltry in comparison to the number of people using this forum. If we're all here cuz' it's free, and it's not that important to us, then it's prob'ly gonna be gone, and we only got ourselves to blame. There are other contact based forums (i.e. "Classmates") that cost about $20/yr. to use, and for many of us, that's affordable. I would like to challenge those of us who can pay, to send $10 to $20 on an annual basis, and if a large percentage do that, I bet this forum will stay here. Otherwise, it's been nice knowin' ya'. Again, those who don't have the money, it's no big deal.

Well, I've got to wait a little while to crack out any money on ANYTHING at the moment...

But I will be placing an order for strings'n things before too long.

By the way, Pappy, any chance of you carrying Acri fingerpicks or Golden Gate Thumbpicks? (The extra heavies are pretty special...)

I'll be ordering more of those soon, as well, so...

Pappy, I sent an e-mail through the click-on-the-button thingie on this board. Does it work? I was wondering how to pay for orders with a money order. I haven't really gotten into the credit card thing.

I don't recall the email but I'll check around. We will accept a check or money order as payment. You can place your order on line and all of the charges will be calculated for you as you create your shopping cart. You can choose "Check/Money Order" as your method of payment. After the order is placed you will be given the address to mail the payment. If you are not in the US you may only use an International money order in US dollars and drawn on a US bank.

I just clicked in my donation and have made a couple of C2C purchases in the last year. Thanks for all that you have done Pappy J!

I would like to pass on Pappy's request and JeffL's challenge to the BigRoad Charter members in particular. Those nearing a couple thousand posts cannot honestly look at themselves in the mirror and say that they don't enjoy this site. If you see the Coast2Coast button "as only a link at the top of the BRB page", let's hope that you don't see the donation button in the same light. It has been duly noted that donations are freight free...

This site is the best on the net and a piece of my family would be missing if it were to go away.

Like I said, I'll pass on a few quid to Mousey, he can make all the electronic arrangements for the cash to go towards the BRB upkeep fund.
I love it here, and it's perhaps a little bit inadequate of me, but I really can't think what I'd do without it.

My intention is to continue making donations on a regular basis. Hopefully every month, but at the least every couple of months.

I think we all get more enjoyment and comraderie from this forum than cable TV, and look what THAT costs.

And of course, I'll make an extra effort to buy from C2C whenever possible.

You know, I visit a lot of music forums. They almost all have their good points, but I've never felt as "at home" as I do here.

Thanks to Pappy and all the members of BRB for making this a great place to hang your hat.

Now, Pappy, set me straight here. My plan is to place an order - strings, a few harps, you know, supplies for next year - and, like last year, I'm planning to pay the "non club" price.

Would you make out better if I paid the membership fee and paid the club prices, or what? I figure I'll wind up paying the same one way or the other - just trying to figure out how to slice up the pie.

And about those picks?

Just a reminder for those of us who didn't see this post before: If you are in a position to donate to the cost of the forum, please check the "make a donation" icon on the main page, and chip in. I think it'd be great to show our appreciation in this manner.
