I'm not doing anything to fix it yet. I believe the ideal solution would be to store session data in BRB's MySQL database rather than in this server's /tmp directory, which is shared by each of the sites hosted on this box (there are a few hundred), and is the likely cause of the problem.

I'm hoping that the next version of PHPBB, the forum software we use, will do this by default so I don't have to hack the current version myself. They're on Release Candidate 7 now, so I don't imagine it will be too long for the final version.

On some other boards I belong to, when I log in I can go up to the host directory, hop into other boards and be a logged in member. Interesting.

Try this...

For me logging in got me a brief flash of a "logged in" index, reverting
immediately to "non logged-in".

A second log-in action was successful, but all "view posts since last" were cleared.

I bookmarked this new log-in page and used it to get here, instead of the one I had been using, which I deleted.

Using the new shortcut/bookmark/favourite (whatever) seems to work OK.

(I hope that makes sense)

I believe I might have just fixed it. Let me know. Looks like a single parameter in the configuration was incorrect.

I trust I will be informed if it's not working properly still...

PS: You might have to restart your browser for my change to work for you.

Rusty-

I can't post in the "A Bit About You" section, when I try to post I am automatically logged out and requested to log back in. Also got this weird message-

Please ensure both the install/ and contrib/ directories are deleted

Yeah, that's fixed. I had to put a fix-er-up script in /forum/install/, and to enforce good security practices, the forum is disabled when that directory exists (I had forgotten or I would have warned everyone).

I've started preparing by reading about Ray's trip:

(There are lots more, they're mostly re-published on Ray's blog)

I seem to be having all of the same issues I had before...

The forum will let me log in, then when I go to post I'm requested to log in again.

Also, after I click on my first forum, all of the new post flags disappear for the other forums when go back to the index*. Thx.

Bosco

*- Edit: now all of the new post flags are back. (?) Sheesh...

I accidentally recreated the old cookie bug when I upgraded, but thought I'd sorted it out.
