Broader blues lyrics forum

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Jan-15-05 AT 10:59 AM (EST)]The "Best Line from a Blues Song" forum seems to narrow the discussion of lyrics. I see that some posters have also used it as a way to find lyrics, but it might be nice to retitle the forum to be openly inclusive of all discussions of lyrics, including writing your own.

As was noted recently in a thread in another forum, many of the great early bluesmen (and women, I'd suppose) saw the guitar as simply accompaniment to their lyrics. The melodies and rhythms would get recycled as they wrote new songs. As a poet (yeah, I'll admit it right here in public) my interest in the blues ultimately is much more about the form's classic structures for storytelling and lyricizing than flamboyant guitar solos.

I think the "Talking Blues" forum is fine for discussions of blues lyrics. Additional forums might make things unnecessarily complicated...

Well I wasn't thinking of an additional forum, just recasting the "Favorite Line" forum to be all things lyrics related. Talking Blues forum seems more of a general discussion.

With only 318 total posts, the "Best Line" forum is the least utilized of all the original forums. Only Singing, Bass, Piano and Harp tabs have fewer posts and the "Best Line" forum had a head start of several years.

Renaming "Best Line" to "Blues Lyrics" makes sense to me.

"...recasting the "Favorite Line" forum to be all things lyrics related."
Sorry, I misunderstood the original post. The above suggestion seems very sensible. Bosco's statistical analysis adds weight to the argument for renaming the "Favourite Line..." forum.
But hey, I don't make the rules...

Wow, I had the general sense of what Bosco put into numbers, but I should have known someone would crunch them, lol. I hope we can find a way to foster more discussion for budding (and experienced) lyricists, as well as the appreciation of the words that go with the tunes.

Chick's posting under Way Off Topic about the various forms of the ballad that came to be Streets of Laredo could actually be a part of such a broader lyrics forum.
