It's not Blues,,,,,but,,,,,

Your chance to write big-time blues reviews. Only two rules: First, if you're connected to the band or artist, go to Shameless Promotion; Second, don't write a book -- keep it relatively short and simple, no 1,000+ word epics.

Oh .. and make it fun.

I had a chance to give the new Bruce Springsteen cd a listen last night.

It's called "Devils and Dust" or something like that.
I had been looking forward to hearing this disc after all the hoopla surrounding it.

It is horrible.
I mean,,,really horrible.

Bruce's vocals are often reminiscent of a really tone deaf Bob Dylan.
The songs are boring. The Guitar work is boring.
In fact,,,there isn't a song on this disc worth listening to.

The best use for this cd is as a Coaster for your favorite Beverage.

Bruce is way "over the Hill" and stuck in a gorge down at the bottom somewhere.

He should be ashamed of himself.

Good songwriting is sometimes driven by adolescence, personal struggle, desire to explore and achieve, and many other factors that tend to lose their efficacy with age, security, and familiarity. I have no idea what it's like to be prolific in songwriting, but remaining fresh and vibrant seems like it could be more hit and miss for a guy like Springsteen, who has accomplished alot.

No doubt Bruce has had his share of success.
I've always liked his older material but,,,this cd will leave you saying "What?"

It will definitely not achieve the success of Claptons "Unplugged" cd.

I always thought he had a heckuva band, and I love bands with female tramps in 'em.

Bruce Springsteen was never my kind of music.
But I liked the cover by the 2Live Crew of "Born in the U.S.A",
which was called "Banned in the U.S.A"

I was going to grab this cd, as I'm a big fan of his work on 'Human Touch' and 'Lucky Town'... I even used one of his songs for our wedding waltz.... I may have to listen to some of it beforehand now, thanks Grady.

Not too many times I disagree with my "Other Brother" Grady, BUT, This is one time.
True, this isn't the Springsteen that most people recognize. Then again, "Nebraska and The Ghost of Tom Joad" were departures from the rock and roll style and weren't big sellers either.
BUT, they are good music !
I'm always a sucker for the veteran influenced song and Devils and Dust is one that grabs me. And that doesn't mention the other songs on the CD that address other issues that are real.
I'm almost suspect of my brother. I THINK he might be try'n to do a little live trap'n.

Grady you must have been dragged naked thru broken glass and gotten a shard of glass in your ears!

I agree with the fact Bruces' new album would not really be classified as the blues. But Bruce's new cd is absolutely worth listening to! :)
It isn't top 40, it isn't blues, it isn't country, it is just really good!
If you're a Bruce fan or not I would suggest giving it a listen!

Nope BOZ,,,

No live Trappin' for me,,,,ain't got time for extracurricular activities.,,,,LOL !!

I decided to give this Disc another listen yesterday evening as I was out running a few errands.

Had to take it out of my Car stereo,,,for I started thinking to myself that driving into oncoming traffic would be a blessing compared to listening to this cd......LOL !!!!

If the cd were a little more "Upbeat" I could probably stand it but,,,it just has a very depressing aura about it in several places.

Maybe I just "don't get it" and if I did "get it" I would be looking for an antibiotic to "get rid of it"........LOL !!!

Bruce is a POP artist. I think one of the eternal characteristics of a pop artist, unlike blues artists for example, is times of bad music as well as good. It happened to the Beatles, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eric Clapton...
