Welcome to the fold. You'll get tonnes of advice here and it's worth every penny you will pay for it!!!
Actually, even more!!!! Switching (or adding) the slide to the banjo will be easy for you if you play in G.
If you want a tone that is a lot different from the banjo (especially if it has a resonator), I suggest you buy
a reso with a spider cone or a cheap wooden acoustic that you can slide on. If you really like the plunky
banjoey sound, you may want to stick to a reso with a biscuit bridge. If you search this website for terms
like 'biscuit' 'spider' , & "banjoey" you'll come up with lots of existing dialogue that will help.
