I didn't go to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis this year (it's been two years since I've competed.) But some friends of mine, Big Boy Little made it to the finals. They didn't win or make it to the top three, but their guitarist, Matt Kelly, won the Albert King blues guitar award.
Matt is a great player, and he's a young guy who really has an old school sound. I've known him for close to ten years, and he was one of the few local young players back in the day who didn't want to be the next Stevie Ray Vaughan (nothing against SRV, but I prefer a more classic blues guitar style.) He definitely deserves the award, and he got a custom Gibson from it.
So, congrats to BBL and Matt for representing DC!
