Welcome to the April Trivia thread. Participation was down in March, probably due to unseasonably warm weather, spring fever and some very tough questions! First up is DC Blues-

>This young harp player tried to get lessons from Sonny Boy in the cotton fields of Arkansas. After making him buy him a fifth of whiskey, Sonny Boy dismissed the young man's playing and told him he would never be any good.

This player eventually developed his own style and became of the great Chicago players. When he saw Sonny Boy again, decades later, Sonny Boy told him that he insulted him when he was young so he would be determined to prove him wrong and become a master harper.

Who was this young man?<

A prior guess of Carey Bell was incorrect, although the mystery man has recorded with Mr. Bell.

This hint should make this one pretty easy: He was a kid you wouldn't want to mess with.

He died in 1998, but his Buddy is still alive and well.

Ah, but that's the curse of winning at BRB Trivia. You get a reprieve this time.

Give your backbone a rest. :D

OK, contrary to common experience, he became extremely popular with his neighbors after he bought an electric guitar from a coworker for $75. Had to chase folks off from his house, he said.

I met Stumblin for the first time on Thursday and he told me the answer as he's away for a few days. But I'm damned if I can remember what it was.

That's a hoot!

I know what you mean, though. I've got CRS, bad.

Y'all do know I like lots of the Fat Possum blues, including some of their more obscure artists?
