I personally dont like female blues singers, sorry. I love Etta James, but give me Etta doing Someone To Watch Over Me or Teach Me Tonight. It don't get no better. Aretha for R&b, Mavis Staples for everything she does.

This new heard of white female Texas so called blues singers I wouldn't give a dime to hear em all. Marsh Ball The exception. She can boggie with the best of em but then she dont proclaim to be a blues player (comes from the Longhair school) I heard Lou Ann B. do a version of Just Your Fool by Walter. It was Just awful. Typical 1-4-5 changes. One of the things I like most about that song is Walters solo, he hangs on the 1. But then what do I know,I love Buck Owens.

I've never been a big fan of female vocalists... I don't know why. Most just don't do it for me. Susan Tedeschi does it for me though. I havn't really liked much of any I've heard since Janis Joplin till Tedeschi.

There's some gospel singers I don't know their names that can put chills up my spine though.

There have been some great female blues singers over the years and a few I haven't seen mentioned are:

Big Mama Thornton
Memphis Minnie
Ella Johnson
Big Maybelle
Dinah Washington
Little Esther Phillips
Janiva Magness

If you ain't listening to these ladies, you're missing out on a lot of great music here.

Big Mama Thornton's "Hound Dog" is great! Now THAT's some attitude! I can't help but smile listening to that one.

Maybe Skip James, and he wasn't even female.
