I don't know if Cooder's the best, but there's alot to be said for a guy who can be almost immediately identified by his sound,especially when the sound is that good. It's not easy to distinguish yourself from the crowd with your instrument. There's alotta voices that you can identify immediately,but not alotta guys on their instruments.

Ry Cooder makes the hairs on my neck stand up (in a good way) when I hear him play. His stuff from the "crossroads" and "Paris, Texas" soundtracks are the most haunting bits of slide that I have ever heard.

Everybody has the right to choose their "best", only I have the right to tell you, without any possible contradiction, the best is Mr Fred Macdowall.
