I've just been listening to "About Them Shoes"
He's still got it - highly recommended cd.

Ok, here's my question:

This Dallas Texas based bluesman recorded some outstanding numbers for Gold Star in the 40s and Imperial in the 50s and was rediscovered by Chris Strachwitz in the summer of 1960 in Dallas, where he was recorded again for the Arhoolie label.

Here's a hint: he sounds a bit like Lightnin' Hopkins and often (but not exclusively) played in open G tuning.

Yep, Lil' Son Jackson it is. Can't seem to get "Cairo Blues" out of my head today.

Over to you...

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Mar-06-06 AT 09:53 AM (EST)]"Got up this mornin
Tom Day was standin 'round
Got up this mornin
Tom Day was standin 'round
If he loses his office, sir
He's runnin from town to town"

Who was Tom Day and who might(did)he "lose his office" to? What song are these lyrics from?

Tom Rushen Blues- Charley Patton

Tom Day was the town sheriff of Merigold, Mississippi. Tom Rushen replaced him in that office.

OK...thanks Mick.

This local legend hated touring, but recorded and had a huge regional following. Although proficient at guitar, harmonica and singing, his hallmark was blues on the steel guitar. He is cited as a major influence on Johnny Winter and Jimmie Vaughan to name a few.

Who is he?

Nope, not Freddie, although that's a great guess. Our mystery man is deceased, whereas I believe that Mr. Roulette is still with us.

I saw Freddy not that long ago at Skips Tavern in the City - alive, well, and tearing it up in his weird way.
