Test Your Blues Knowledge

Postby STL Silver » Thu Apr 29, 2010 12:22 am

Look’n for a style of Blues that I must have, need help! So there is this really crappy movie called Black Snake Moan. The title track (which sucks) is the only example of this style of blues that I can locate. On an extended drive recently I caught a station that played like 2 hours of this style of blues. Any idea what this style could be? Any idea what I am even talking about?? Anyway, I would love to find more of this powerful music. Any help finding artist or location to score these tunes is gratefully appreciated!!
Many thanks in advance!!

I thought it was a really good movie. Much better than that train wreck, Cadillac Records.

I really liked the movie too-- wasn.t he same old boring crap . Its Mississippi Hill country blues

North Mississippi Allstars , RL Burnside, Jesse Hemphill etc

Many thanks for the suggestions! Got Burnside play’n as I am typing. While amazing sounds’ still not the loud, distorted, high intensity stuff I heard on my travels or as represented in the movie. At any rate many thanks!!

I haven't seen that one, but I recently saw Honeydripper. That suffered from the old "Hey, let's do the show right here" syndrome and some very stilted dialogue.
I think I have a copy of Black Snake Moan somewhere around here, I'll try to find that & check it out some time soon.

Yeah, Honeydripper had great music, but the movie itself was pretty bad.
