Plastic memory

The lowdown on the Mississippi Sax. Just for Google, this section is about harmonicas.

Plastic memory

I have come across the information that it is possible to use plastic memory to return a bent plastic bmx wheel to it's correct shape by putting it in the fridge or freezer. Do plastic reeds get tired, and if so, is it possible to use the same technique to drag them back to full performance?

I'm not sure about harmonicas specifically, but there are various types of plastic, some with more memory than others. the only way to find out is to try it, though i wouldn't put the whole thing in if possible, only the reeds, the contracting of the metal could muck things up even more.

I've never heard of a harmonica with plastic reeds.

Those super cheap harps that you can buy for a buck or two at the grocery store have plastic reeds.

God only knows what key they are tuned to.

This sounds bogus to me. I think I'll mangle up a plastic milk jug and stick it in the freezer to see what happens. I'm guessing that it will still be mangled up and it'll also be cold.

Only whilst still cold. Just occurred to me, the date was possibly the wrong one to post on :wha: , but the question was genuine.
