My best suggestion for whatever it's worth is to put a P90 or any hot-wired soapbar style pickup in it to get a raunchier slide tone. If you're looking for a more janky, "Mississippi Fred McDowell" style slide tone then any of those old D'Armond style pickups will work wonders.

(just a side note) Has anyone else ever noticed how those D'Armond pickups are the most amazing pieces of magnet and wire you've ever heard for fuzz distortion? Damn!
