Yep, you got it!
Have fun, it's a really cool tune and one of the things I like about it is that it sounds good played at almost any tempo. Sometimes I like playing it at Charley's tempo, but when the mood strikes I like playing it at a dirge-like speed...great choice of a song to learn, enjoy yourself!

It's in standard tuning, key of E (capoed higher, though).
Most of the song's melody is played on the high E and G strings in unison.
It starts with an E lick that is repeated all through the song:

-0--2--4-4
-------------
-1--2--4-4
-------------
-------------
-------------
Then the same notes descend back to an A chord with the pinky finger doing a quick pulloff from the 2d fret high E string (technically that would be A6 to A major).

Then the ascending E lick is played again, descending to a 1st position B7 chord on its way back this time.

Then comes a tricky part - in the second half of the verse the E lick climbs to a 4th fret B chord with the pinky fretting the 7th fret high E (over the words "you're gonna miss me") and then Patton either slaps his guitar or claps his hands (over the words "sweet dreams").

Then there's a bridge ("you will never know, what your friend will do, when he's going away....") where the E is a B7 shape slid up to E and then returns to the same pattern as the verse.

Hope that's not too confusing.

The notes and fretted positions themselves are quite easy, but the timing and rhythm is a little tricky....not because it's difficult but rather because it's so archaic.
If you can get your hands on it, check out Paul Rishell's version, he does a very nice melancholy cover of it.
