Pins come in different diameters. Some won't seat all the way unless you turn them down or open up the holes in the bridge. Don't worry about it, just push them in till they're tight.

yes, ricochet is right, It's either having a 3deg or 5 deg taper & a some differences in diameter just below the 'skirt'.

It's better to measure with a vernier calliper before ordering.

Hi birddog, those pins looks ok to me. Some guitars comes in very good pin to hole fittings & they sit nicely snugged until the skirt is almost flush or below the bridge surface. These pin holes on the bridge have had countersunk for the 'skirt'. They looks neat but give them a couple of years & you'll need bigger pins again.

DONT DO THIS, but I had seen a friend over here using some super glue (w/o accelerator) to wet around the pin hole walls OR 'clear' nail vanish to strengthen against hole diameter wear.

I got as Johnson JD26 also with a vintage neck just as you described. Some said that more woods on the neck give a little more in tone & volume. The only regret I had a year while later after getting the JD26 was, I should grab the JD27 also, & now it's gone. Now it's known as Recording King RD26 & 27.

I put in a set of bone pins w/abalone dots made it sound a bit better, however I may need to get a pin reamer.
They don't seat all the way down to the rim like the others. Here's a lousey photo but it is better to have them seated to the rim right ?
