Dude was supposed to play at Hat Tricks tonight in Lewisville about 20 minutes away

from me.

Show got cancelled due to weather.

3 inches of snow on the ground right now and another 3 to 5 forecasted.

For north Texas thats a paralyzer.

And pisses me off too.

I was supposed to have a FedEx drop off today from West Coast Pedalboards.

A flat tweed 12" x 18" board.

Hell and piss and sheeit!

Well, I don't think anyone else is playing slide the way he does these days.

He may not be to your liking, and that is fine, a lot of people didn't dig Johnny Winter either...

Either way, I was very happy to see him live again after so long, and he is still a very gracious, no ego, very approachable individual.

I'm happy he plays what he wants the way he wants it.... and he autographed his LP for me...

I've been a fan since I first saw him live and had no idea who he was, and he was very nice back then, 15 years later, he is still the same dude, playing his music his way...

He made me want to pick up a slide in the first place.

To each their own.

Well it must be just a matter of personal taste;
This guy obviously knows how to make blues sounds, he's got the blues sounds in him, those from 1900 to 2015, BUT i perceive that his heart is in Rock not Blues, he uses all the blues phrases to speak Rock,

which is why I would skip those 1st four minutes, after about 4 minutes the other musicians sort of squeeze him into something that is more blues than rock sort of.

I just now checked out the youtube you offered. Thanks. Well the rock element is not present in that one, it is much more to my tastes than the video I had found, but yet and still I have to agree with Texas Blues's post.
Seems like he throws together some blues phrasings without establishing a coherent context, and probably he should look for a partner to do the vocals.

But to me he tries too hard.

I get his schtick.

And good on him if it works and he makes $$$ from it.

But it ain't my 'thang and honestly he's hard to for me to listen to.

BUT unless a listener has far more patience than I do,
I would recomment skipping the first 4 minutes.

The last time I saw Eric was in 1999 when he opened for Steve Vai on the Ultra Zone Tour.

All I can say is: Good God, he is still a Blues Force. Eric is still every bit of the monster on a Resonator as he was in '99.

I believe he is still playing the same Dobro (which I believe is tunes to Open G capoed up to Open A)

and his old Washburn Signature Models (Tuned Open D capoed up to Open E).

Interesting, he has black tape over both the Washburn and Dobro Emblems on the headstocks.

Anyway, The Show Rocked...
