ALL my electrics have 9s on them. I've had 10s or 11s on some of my guitars before, but I felt it didn't make any difference in terms of tone. 11s just made it nearly impossible to play. I want effortless playability from my guitars. I don't want to wrestle the damn things. My best playing guitar's a Pacifica: slim neck, flat board with big frets and 9s on it. Plays like butter!

But that's different for everyone. Go with whatever gauge feels best for you.

I have .10s on my main gigging Les Paul, and on my Pacifica (strat type). On the Les Paul they feel very light, while they feel a little heavier on the Pacifica with the longer scale length. My other LP which has a Bigsby tailpiece and I use more for fingerpicking and rockabilly has .11s. But I wouldn't want those on a Strat.

On another note. Someone gave you a '65 Strat? O_o

The feel of thicker gauge strings do feel more natural to me.
i play alot of acoustic stuff so maybe thats why the slinky strings seem funny.
9's just feel way to thin

i think i'll try 10's and if i dont like the sound or the play of the guitar changes, i'll change it back. maybe i'm wrong, but the 9's just make me think i'm getting a "thinner", "slinky" sound.

Again, I didn't find a big difference in how I sounded when the guitar was played fretted, still, I like the way the bigger strings feel.

Any Pedal suggestions for me to reach top quality "Bluesy" tone?

You might be better starting a new thread for this. I don't think there's a magic bullet, but there a number of pedals that can get a better overdrive than your amp, probably.

Billy Gibbons uses .008's. Tone as fat as you wanna' be.

You could probably put dental floss on that gorgeous LP of his and still get a great sound.
