I remember Jimmy from the Mannish Boys. Gary Primich was my first and only harmonica teacher around that time and I saw them play many times. Your right he was a very excellent drummer who never overplayed in volume or flash. I was so saddened to hear about Gary and now Jimmy. Being an old Austin guy now living in Japan its nice to remember the old days in Austin when blues was the king.

This hit me pretty hard. We have stayed in touch over the years via email. He told me he had cancer a few years back. Recently a student walked in my high school special education classroom and said" I hear you knew Frank Zappa. Zappa is my hero!". I told him I knew Jimmy, not Frank. He was still all excited. He signed up as a classroom helper and I show him some guitar stuff. I was about to email Jimmy and see if he would mind exhanging a few words with this kid. Bummer. Now it has to go via a song. I did a few songs about Jimmy tonight. Here is the first one. It is solo harp with my feet on the drum pedals:

RIP Jimmy Carl Black
