so far i've played it a bit here at home and not been amped up out live but this afternoon we may play live at a benefit.
first impressions are of a harmonica that is very well made. the covers come up flush to the back side of the very slim mouthpiece, which is smooth to the feel and smooth in action as well. it has round rather than square holes which i prefer. slide is very smooth and positive.
the harp feels almost like a jumbo diatonic in a way. think Bluesmaster on steroids. the key is painted large on the back of the comb.
the harp sounds all notes top to bottom with reasonable effort, in fact it may be easy to stall with too much wind and not enough control.
how does it sound? to my ear very good indeed! i played it solo for a while and then wife got out her guitar and we jammed a few songs in A so i could do some 3rd position, which is why i wanted this harp in particular. it sounds really great! the smoothness of the covers and mouthpiece make sliding up and down a breeze. even on quick changes it didn't stall any notes, it sounded right out.

i'm hoping that i'll have a report on how it sounds through a p.a. and through a small tube amp later today. stay tuned....

later....................

having vetted it last night at the local jam i will attest to its overall greatness. using an underpowered amp on a loud stage i sort of picked my battles and got the band to lay back for some solos, and the SXC really shone. other than operator malfunctions- like stalling a reed here and there trying to draw a bit hard-, the harp is everything Brandon describes in his video about it.
never had a cx12 but if i were to decide on another hohner chromatic that's the direction i'd take.

the SCX was well worth the price. i expect it will be a part of my arsenal for a long time to come.
