Hounddog - I know what you mean about having to watch out, in the beginning I'd probably be too "busy" getting accustomed to the different technique / feel but once my hands are used to that they'll probably want to throw in those little "adornments" too

bigdaddy - I wouldn't play bass in THIS band, I am the singer and I get away with singing & playing guitar, mainly because there is another guitar player, so I can just do some fills in between words/sentences in the harder to play songs AND because I've been playing guitar for over 30 years. I'm pretty sure I will NOT be able to sing & play bass at the same time (Sting I am NOT  ).
I have always been pleased being the guitar player in the background, supporting singers, having my time in the spotlight when playing solo's, but in this band I am singing so I more or less have to be in the spotlight all the time. And hey, I'm not going to give up EVERY opportunity to be the center of attention (whether that be positive or negative attention is up to the audience) either
I consider myself amongst the "better amateur" guitar players, since wednesday I've been contemplating "broadening my horizon", more so since what I've been hearing during our search for a bass player has NOT impressed me much - which is the reason they are not in the band in the first place

So defo go for it, gear is really cheap at the moment .

But it is a different mind set , I have spent the last two weeks getting out of gtr mode ( two days ) and getting into 4 string mode.

It is slightly hard NOT to chuck those wee fils in that I usually do on 6string...and leave a space...yes felles leave a space...

We are playing My Babe which I do on slide in D...now I have to do it on the bass in F..

adios,
Lovat

so, what now? should I start looking for a bass guitar/amp (I can hear the comments on THAT already...) or should I do what I do in case of a sudden urge to work: sit back, relax and wait till it's over
