Keep on going Walter, do what you do and be yourself; I spent years trying to force myself into some sort of mental and emotional box, now, sod it. This is me, an irregular peg, I refuse to try and fit square or round holes.

Hi Folks,

Just because you write 5000 songs and publish them does not mean they will correlate or translate anything exciting and have significant emotional affect on others who are listening to it. It has a meaning to the composer him or herself only.

Why do some songs become number 1 hits and others don't??

cheers

Hey Multi: have you checked out Walter's myspace page? He doesn't WRITE songs. They stream from him and he doesn't put 'em to paper, or computer. He's totally spontaneous, and has been for years... other than his gear setup that is. If you haven't, check it out, you'll find some illumination there about his post. Cheers.

As long as inspiration calls

Hi Water,

There are no rules about recording when you feel like it and what inspire you to do so. In this technology haven era we're in anyone can post a song on any website as much as they like. So we are free to do so. But here is the thing. If you post everysong you ever composed over the years perhaps I would say that's too much because people may not always listen to them. However, if they are "quality" songs then it's different.

I'd go with quality rather than quantity. That's because I studied composition and when you know it's "heading" in the right direction it's so fulfilling for the soul. Not many people pay attention to composing and just place "raw" musical material online and as a composer you can tell whether it's "cheap" or "expensive"; no matter how much musical elements are used.

I'll also make a statement that improvising is also composing :D For exmaple, Rachmaninov, Bach, Beethoven were all champion improvisers just like Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, to name a few. I read an article once that said "there is very little difference between inprovising and composing in a long haul".

But like you said, if it comes from the heart then it's a piece of music you believe in and nobody can take it away from you.

cheers
multi
